How did you discover The Combine [CSC] CrossFit?

I drove by it all the time on my way home, and a couple of my friends had been there before I tried it. I decided to drop in one day and never turned back!

What has CrossFit at the Combine done for your personally? Physically?

Wow. Where to start! Before joining The Combine, I was involved in a lot of endurance training. All I ever did was train for marathons, triathlons, and get to as many spin classes as I could. I noticed that my times weren’t getting any faster during my training, and I was constantly tired. I was ready for something new, and I decided to switch my athletic focus to strength vs. endurance. That was probably the best decision of my athletic career. I am now stronger, faster, and as the quote goes, definitely harder to kill. ;)

Crossfit has also taught me how to strive to reach my fullest potential, in athletic endeavors and beyond. Just when I think I’ve pushed myself as hard as I possibly can, one of my teammates comes out of the corner yelling at me to go faster, add plates, or get on the bar. Those are the kind of people I need in my life!

Who/what inspires/motivates you or why do you workout?

Everyone and everything motivates me. When I walk in the gym and see someone in their first foundations class, it motivates me. They took the plunge! When I see my teammate set a PR with an enormous smile on their face and a fist pump in the air, that definitely motivates me. A coach giving me a piece of advice on a missed lift, and then watching me nail the next lift…that motivates me. Songs about never quitting, pure anger, and trash music about getting crunk with the homies in the club all motivate me. But mostly what motivates me is the fact that I can ALWAYS get better. The chance to progress is always there! Some days, when it seems like I’m failing at everything else, at least I have my own two feet and the ability to walk into a gym that I call home to lift all the weights for time with the people I love.

What "ah ha" moments have you had in CrossFit?

Too many to count! It took me a year to get double unders. And two years to get bar muscle ups. That’s the great thing about Crossfit; there’s always something new to learn, and with that comes the satisfaction of adding a skill to your mastery list.

What fitness accomplishment are you most proud of?

I will never forget the awe and sense of success I felt when I crossed the finish line at the 2013 Austin Marathon. I never thought I would run, yet finish, an entire marathon, but I did dangit! To this day, the songs I listened to during that 4 hour run therapy session bring back all the feels!

When you are not working out, how do you spend your free time?

Let’s be real…I gladly choose to spend all of my free time working out! Butttt I also enjoy eating a lot of food, doing anything outside in the sunshine, and spending time with/annoying those that I love. :)

What are your 3 favorite exercises?

Bar MU, snatches, and handstand pushups; because they all challenge me!
