Member Spotlight: James Alexander
James is one of our resident 5:30am-ers; always early and always ready to work hard and compete amongst his classmates. Since joining the Combine, James has gotten stronger, faster, and gone up on all of his lifts.
How did you discover The Combine [CSC] CrossFit?
My friend Aaron had been at The Combine for quite a while and raved about how good the programming was, and how much he has learning there. We moved to Drip so it seemed like a good time to make the move.
What has CrossFit at the Combine done for your personally? Physically?
The Combine and CrossFit in general keeps me sane. I travel quite a bit for work and I really miss the mornings not being there. I love the sense of community and competition at the Combine and really look forward to Friday hero workouts. By far the funnest day of the week – it’s great to have anyone that finishes ahead of you come and pull you over the finish. I have got quite a bit stronger and faster since being at the Combine. All my lifts have a gone up and I have improved on the benchmarks consistently.
Who/what inspires/motivates you or why do you workout?
I used to be pretty large. When Meg got pregnant with Jacob I decided it was time to get in shape and dropped 40 lbs. I want to be a good example for my kids about what a healthy lifestyle can look like and I want to be around for them as a I get older.
What "ah ha" moments have you had in CrossFit?
I am the most immobile person in the history of the earth
What fitness accomplishment are you most proud of?
- Probably completing the Cap to Coast race even though I hate running
- Deadlifting 515
- Losing 40 lbs to get in shape
What are your 3 favorite exercises?
Muscle ups, Deadlifts and Back Squats
When your alarm goes off dark and early for the 530am class, what are your first thoughts?
Rollover and look what’s programmed for the day and hope it’s nothing with OHS in it.
