Member Spotlight - Mandy Watkins
Mandy Watkins has been a member with us for 1 year this month and we are privileged to spotlight her this January. Not only has Mandy seen improvements with her strength, skill and fitness levels, she has lost over 9% body fat and has had other remarkable body composition changes. Mandy’s entire family is also huge advocates of CrossFit and regulars at The Combine. Her husband, Chad, has been a regular here for a year and a half and their two young children are regulars at the gym as well. Their oldest, 4 year old Cash, is destined to be a games competitor as he is already working on his muscle-ups!
Below is a little Q&A we did with Mandy.......
How did you hear about CSC CrossFit/The Combine?
A very good friend introduced me and my husband to The Combine.
Why did you start CrossFit?
After having back to back pregnancies, I started running again and working with a trainer but I still did not feel fit or strong. Before I started Crossfit I was about 5 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight. I knew it was going to take more than losing 5 lbs to get me to the fitness level I was at before I had 2 babies. I was bored with my workout routine and was in search of a challenge.
What has crossfit at The Combine done for you personally? Physically?
Crossfit has done more than I ever could have imagined possible for my health. Robert has consistently challenged me in workouts and as a result I have seen a huge difference in my strength and endurance. I still can’t believe I am now doing pull-ups without a resistance band. I would have never tried to do a pull-up on my own if Robert had not encouraged me to do so. I have also changed my eating habits with Melisa’s guidance. She has been an invaluable resource and a wealth of knowledge. I am forever grateful for all Robert and Melisa have done for my health.
What do you like most about CrossFit?
I love that every workout is a different challenge. I also enjoy the friendly competition that Crossfit brings out in everyone. Most of all, I love the intensity.
What do you like most about The Combine?
The Coaches and The Combine community. It is safe to say that I probably pass 95% of all Crossfit gyms in Austin on my way to The Combine. There is actually a Crossfit gym 5 minutes from our home. The friendly competition that is a part of every class, the friendships I have gained, and the Coaches desire to push me to my potential is the reason I drive the extra distance.
What goals have you set and reached since starting at The Combine?
I made a promise to myself that I would give Crossfit a 1 year commitment. It has almost been a year and I have achieved more than just losing the extra baby weight. Thanks to Crossfit I feel the best I have ever felt.

Double unders, Pull-ups and Deadlifts
